Welcome to the Fall Jacobs Gymnastics Session!

We are excited to be starting our 18th  season here at Jacobs!
Fall classes begin right after Labor Day – Sept 3-9!

We welcome all the new gymnasts and appreciate the support of the returning gymnasts and their families!
The first few weeks can be a little overwhelming and we appreciate everyone’s patience and enthusiasm!
If you have not yet turned in updated registration forms and September tuition and registration fees, please do so this week!

Our goal is to provide a positive experience for all!

We are excited to have a brand new vault runway! We have also upgraded a few other pieces of equipment and are enjoying new (July!) lobby furniture!

The coaches will be evaluating the gymnasts during class to ensure that each gymnast is in an appropriate class for their age and ability. We will advise parents of any changes that are needed.

Parents are not allowed to watch from inside the gym – very distracting and space is limited! The blinds are rarely closed.
While it is fun to watch class – many gymnasts are distracted by the many parent faces at the window.  We appreciate your support of this policy.

Please make sure your gymnast has appropriate fitting attire – a  leotard for girls – belly/back covered. No skirts attached, no pants.

Lycra shorts are fine though.  Bare feet, hair pulled up off neck and out of eyes. No jewelry.
Boys – t-shirt/shorts. Nothing too baggy. Bare feet also.

Additional parking is available in the rear of the building. The first few weeks can be very difficult while everyone gets into the routine.
Please do not pull up close to the door to unload your gymnast as others are trying to safely exit!
Please do not park next to the building as well or block other businesses.

Make ups are not allowed in September only – due to the full classes and our goal of learning about each gymnast and making sure each one is in the appropriate class!

If you have questions, concerns, or comments – please ask Chris, Beckye, or Mallory, or speak with your gymnast’s coach after class!

Please email me directly with any questions or comments – chrisjacobs04@msn.com
Thanks so much!

* May 27  (Memorial Day) – June 2 – GYM GLOSED to prepare for summer schedule.

Summer Transition! If you haven’t confirmed yet – please send a quick email to:
1  Confirm your gymnast is continuing in the same class
2  Needs a different class time/level.
3  Will not be attending in the summer, and their last day will be during Parent’s Week.
I have had several responses already – thank you very much!
Overall the transition to year-round programs has been well received. We know gymnasts do best with consistency.  Often after a short break, gymnasts will return and be discouraged to find they have lost skills, strength and flexibility.
We offer make-ups in the summer for missed lessons and are very flexible.
We also offer several 2-day camps that are perfect for gaining new skills, extra gym time, and burning some energy. Camp schedule will be posted May 8.
Summer is a 12-week program with the option to compete in the Jacobs 16th Annual Tumbling Meet – open to all summer gymnasts ages 4 and older!

Parent’s Week is coming on May 20 -23 at your gymnast’s regularly scheduled class! Parents and siblings are welcome to come and participate, cheer and take pictures/video of your gymnast’s class. Gymnasts will present routines, skills and more. Parents are encouraged to come in comfortable clothing – start the class with stretching activities and be ready to participate periodically throughout the class. Because we have several classes overlapping, we ask everyone to stay with their child’s class, exercise patience in the parking  and be excited to share this special time. The gymnasts are excited to show you skills and have you in the gym. This is NOT a production to invite extended family to come to. Our gym has limited space as you know and this should be a special time for parents! Let me know if you have questions!

Make up lessons will NOT be scheduled May 20-23.

CONFIRM SUMMER TODAY!

Jacobs Gymnastics April News

Tuition is due the first week of the month

Spring Progress Reports are being sent home this week.
Great job to our gymnasts giving 100% effort! Shout out to the great coaches for a great two weeks of evals too!
Parents are encouraged to share with their gymnasts – progress and goals.

Check the coach’s recommendations for levels.
Email us with your preference – and specify any changes to your current schedule – level, day and times –
we will do our best to make the changes happen ASAP! We may need to adjust our coaching schedule to accommodate, so your patience is appreciated as we transition to our year-round program.
After reviewing your Progress Report – please do one of the following in the next week or two!
Email us to say –
1 – We are going to stay in current class.
2 – We need to change to another class time or level – with preference stated.
3 – Let us know if you are discontinuing for summer. Two-week notice required.

As we transition to a year-round program – there is no need to again re-register for summer.  The schedule will simply continue. We move up gymnasts when they are ready throughout the year. We are open to changes also as needed.  If your gymnast was not ready to move up this week, we are always charting progress and moving gymnasts up when ready, not just at set times in the year.
We strongly recommend continuing through the summer as gymnastics requires consistent practice to achieve progress.  Taking a few months off will result in lost skills, strength and flexibility.  Upon return, gymnasts are discouraged to find they have to relearn skills. Jacobs gym is air conditioned and we offer lots of opportunities for make-up lessons as needed in summer. We also have Camps/Clinics offered for specific skills and levels. Camps and Clinics will be posted toward the end of April on our website.
We also have the Annual Tumbling Meet in August open to all our gymnasts, ages 4 and older, that would like to participate. Gymnasts must be enrolled in classes to participate. More info to come!

***Parent’s Week is May 20-23 at your gymnast’s regular class time! Come ready to cheer, participate and more!

The gym will be closed Memorial Day – May 27-30.

Check the lost and found for items – water bottles, clothing, jackets, shoes…

We accept cash or check at the desk!

The gym will be closed for Spring Break-March 18-22.
Over the course of the year, the lessons do average 4 per month. No extra charges for 5 week months, no make ups for 3 week months.

Gymnast evaluations will take place March 25 -April 4.
Evaluation sheets will be sent home April 2-6 with progress and information for summer programs, levels and more!
**Lobby window blinds will be closed for evaluations to help our gymnasts maintain focus.
We evaluate all gymnasts and recommend any level changes at this time.
We move gymnasts up as soon as they have the required skills for the next level.
The progress reports will also give the information of what skills are still needed to move up.

CHANGES TO SUMMER REGISTRATION THIS YEAR:
*Super Simple!
Our schedule will remain the same!
We continue to move gymnasts up levels as they gain skills.
We need every parent to do one of the following –
PREFERABLY AFTER THE SPRING REPORTS ARE SENT HOME!
1 – Email to confirm your gymnast will stay in the same class
2 – Email to request a change of class/level
3 – Email to give a notice of discontinuing – must receive a 2-week notice!
This should allow our gymnasts to continue to make progress with consistency and hard work!
Summer is the perfect time for gaining new skills too! The gym is air-conditioned – some are not!
We also run several 2 day clinics and camps for all ages, levels, and specific skills! More details to come after evaluations!

Picture Proof Sheets were emailed out 2 weeks ago. He also mailed them USPS.  If you have not received them or have questions regarding the forms, orders…
call Tim McConnell’s office!

Weather policy update:
Our policy at Jacobs is to test the roads, check the status of the parking lot, check status of Schools (day and evening activities) and weather predicted for class hours.
We will make an informed decision by 3 PM for afternoon classes.
I will post closures on our website, Facebook and Instagram pages. I will also email that days’ families with news of closing.
If we do need to cancel, it is done for the safety of our families. We will offer make up opportunities within 2-3 weeks of the missed lesson.
I will also email the info on that after confirming with coaches to set up times.

This week is PICTURE WEEK!  with Tim McConnell Fine Photography! Tim will be at Jacobs, February 4-8 at your gymnast’s regularly scheduled class  to shoot individual and class pictures! Pictures take approximately 10 minutes of regular class time. We will run as much of a normal class as possible!  Click here for pdf copy and information card to be filled out and turned in before class!

Winter Weather Policy – as previously mentioned, winter in Iowa is tough to predict. We generally follow Waukee Schools with closing and early outs as indication for closing. We also try to assess the weather and road conditions to see if it is safe or not to have classes.   Our goal is to announce decisions by 2:00 each day. We announce on our FB and Instagram pages and update the website. When possible, I also email the families affected the day of a closure. When in doubt check our website or social media.  If you are not wanting to come on questionable days, please don’t!  We will be offering make ups for winter related closures. We do not close for teacher in service days or minor holidays.

Sick kids – We hate to hear our gymnasts are sick. If there is a temp or vomiting, please do not send them to gymnastics for 24 hours at least. We will schedule a make-up.  Just email the request. We don’t want your child to get worse, and we would hate to infect others as well.

REMINDER – We will no longer be doing a full Summer or Fall registration. Classes will continue year-round, making advancements throughout the year as each gymnast masters the needed skills at each level. We will do a formal evaluation in March (as we do every year) and send home the report for parents to view. We continue to chart progress throughout the year for each student as well. We will make changes as requested as well from one class to another as long as space is available. Discontinuing still requires a two-week email notice given. We are excited to have a much simpler procedure in place moving forward.

*Please label your gymnast’s coat, boots, water bottles and other items to minimize the “mix-ups.”  Check the lost and found for missing items! Normally we have a Rubbermaid tub next to the Pepsi machine.

Parents – regarding gymnasts and siblings’ behavior in the lobby – please help us keep a pleasant and safe waiting area by supervising your children. Children should not be jumping on the furniture, running, tumbling while waiting. We have had a few mishaps in the last few weeks resulting in injury to children and unsuspecting parents, as well as damage to furniture and more.
We are thrilled that our gymnasts are excited about class and want to flip non-stop, but if parents are getting kicked and the flooring is really not safe, we need to wait till we are inside the gym.

If questions or concerns – please email me at chrisjacobs04@msn.com!

Coming in February – Class and Individual pictures with Tim McConnell!
Tim McConnell will be in the gym February 4-7 to photograph all our gymnasts – individually and as a group.
Pictures are taken during regular class times – and generally take 8-10 minutes out of each class.
Hard copy letters with more details will be sent home ASAP.
Click here for a pdf copy!

For all weather-related closings we follow the Waukee Schools when possible, HOWEVER, sometimes the best choice must take into account current weather issues.  If travel is prohibited, and safety is an issue, we will cancel.
If early weather issues are no longer a factor by 3:00, we may remain open!
Either way we will email notices of closing to all current families, post the closing on the home page of the website, as well as post to Facebook and Instagram. We will offer make-up opportunities for those families missing class as well.

Please label all coats, clothing and water bottles. We will donate all items left on the lost and found table January 10. Check it out!
